Honey, Our Nerd is Showing

My husband and I are HUGE Stargate fans - SG1 and Atlantis. Our best friends are not and think we are total nerds for being so into it.

Example 1:
While walking over to Jenn and Chad's house for dinner one night, and after Sean found my Christmas gift from my mother - an ion ashtray that he dubbed 'the spaceship'. This convo is about that spaceship.

Sean: I was afraid to use it, I thought maybe I'd disappear or something.
Me: Ooh, or get sent to a (crap, can't think of the term now, grr) 'parallel space' like in Stargate.
Sean: Yeah! Exactly. That whole 'can't eat or drink' thing would suck though.
Me: but you could sit in a room and do rude things and no one would ever know.
(ok, there was more to this but I started to remember when I started typing and..well, its just probably not appropriate....moving on :))

Example 2:
The other day Chad bought a HUGE remote from Walgreens. You know, the remote that you have to hold with both hands? Yeah. Anyway, Jenn was changing channels and Sean made a comment that made them question our sanity.

Sean: Its like your dialing a Stargate.
Jenn: Blank look and raised eyebrow that said, What the hell? (I totally know that's what she was thinking, lol)
Sean: You know, cause your having to use your fingers...
Me: (cause it wasn't bad enough already) There are these really huge buttons on the console thingy and you have to dial like this (started one-finger typing imaginary keys).
Now Jenn and Chad are looking at us like we've lost it. They don't say a word.
Me: (while Sean is still going on trying to explain it) Stop honey, our nerd is showing.

Tonight we practically did a happy dance in their kitchen when Sean checked Netflix and saw that the first 3 disks of season 2 of Stargate: Atlantis will be here tomorrow.

We ARE total nerds :).

Halloween!

I know that Hypothetical Thursday is late...I'll do that first thing in the morning. This has been such a weird week and I'm suffering from puppy brain :).

I thought I'd share a few pics from tonight:

This year I decided to dress up - as what I had no idea. Unfortunately, most costumes don't come in my size so I was limited to the neck up and a mask was out of the question. With the way I sweat? Yeah...right.
Obviously I decided to go with Originality. I had envisioned my makeup looking much cooler and close to that from the last movie - I ended up looking like Jack's version. Oh well, it was fun anyway.
Yes I still have green hair - and I'm going to bed with it that way...I like it so much I'm not sure when I'll get around to washing it out. (just kidding - its so stiff I expect rats to make a nest out of it in the middle of the night.)

Day 257 - 10/31/2008

Ike never was sure what he wanted to be for Halloween - even after I had bought the costume he told me to buy. Lylli, on the other hand, knew way back in September when she first saw the dress in Wal-Mart. OMG - its been in her closet for 2 weeks and EVERY FREAKING DAY I've had to hear about it. I'm so glad Halloween is over so it can become her attire for the next year. Hey, it means less dirty laundry for me :).

Ironman and the Princess

From the day we got him - I think minutes after Sean walked in the door - I knew I had to get Chance a costume. I was thinking something a little...well, more - but Sean and the kids picked this out and it actually turned out to be a hit.It has a hat to go with it, but he was having NONE of that. Watching him try to bite it off was the funniest thing ever though - and the rider got it at least once during the night.
You can't see it that well, but its a saddle with a cowboy on it.

He is not amused.

My Sis

So I've written a post about my parents and being the youngest in a family of 9 kids - but I haven't talked about those kids a lot. Why? Because I hardly know any of them...and I hate it more than any of them could ever know.
Out of the 9 I have only lived with 3 for any length of time. One of my father's daughters and 2 of my mother's children (though my family never seperated it that way). Of course, I was unkind to my father's daughter, Jeannie, when we would fight. I said horrible kid things like "you're not really my sister"...things I'm ashamed of now. (I'm really sorry, Jeannie.)
Monique is my sister, and the oldest child I grew up with - yet that statement seems so strange to me. With her being 12 years older she was away at college before I began to love the fact that I had her around. She was crazy in high school - dressed up like Boy George, wore trashbags to school with a belt, and would wear one nightgown to bed and put on a different one to wear to school. I hear my parents were a permanent fixture around the school (but don't for one second think that my brother wasn't ever the reason for that, lol).
Everyone loved her - everyone always has. She has that magnetic personality that no one can resist. That and she's super talented. She's a singer and an actress - bigger than life. Oh...and a klutz. She has sat down at a table only to have it collapse around her a second later and at my grandmother's funeral she wrapped one foot around the chair leg and it fell asleep. When we got up to view the body she forgot and the chairs from where she was and back toppled over like dominoes. I once watched her performing in college as the evil stepmother in Snow White - she fell off the back of a platform on stage during a big 'mirror' scene.

And I wanted to be just like her.

She's been married twice - to men that did NOT deserve her and broke her heart. For the last 15 years or so she has lived a 'lost' life - jumping from one place to another and losing her happiness...her soul, along the way. I've seen her age more in the last 4 years than in her entire pfmmmm year life.

But...now there is hope. Forgive me for not being able to post more about 'hope' now...but I will :).

While she was here we went bowling (sooo fun). I'll post pics as soon as I get them edited - I've been in a funk lately (broken record). Sean had a little more to drink than he normally does which resulted in a lost 20 minutes while I gave him my food order - a pretzel with cheese. That man nearly caused me to lose what little mind I have left. No more drinky-drinky for him.
He did nearly take out the annoying teenagers next to us with a bright orange bowling ball when he was dancing before he rolled and lost his grip.
I can't wait to see her again - she wants me to take photos of her...and with her background I can see some really creative shots coming your way :).

Stretched Thin

Summer is definately getting to me. I had hopes that the sun would rejuvenate me, and things were going well until summer actually hit us. Spring was a dream filled with water-hose fun and minor sunburns. The days were perfectly warm...

and then HOLY $HIT ITS HOT OUT THERE began.

I'm stuck in the house all day with the kids, but give me a day off and I will STILL stay in the house. I just don't do well with the whole 'sweating eyeballs' thing. Oh, and staying in my house isn't much better. Our A/C is junk. I can't do laundry during the day because the dryer and A/C together trip the braker (breaker?) and you *think* the A/C is on, but it tricks you by blowing warm air. Then, about 5 pm it gets unbearable in here...like an oven. I can just feel my liver cooking!

and heat gives me migraines....so yeah, that sucks.

In addition to the heat wearing me out, my mother lives here now. Every day or morning...or afternoon, that I have *off* she's calling me wanting me to take her somewhere. I'm ok with going places every now and then...but I'd like some time to myself where I don't have to focus on someone else.

Oh, and one other thing - I'm having some issues with our best friends. I won't go into it here like I'd like to - I don't think they ever read it, but I need to talk to them before I tell the rest of the world, you know?
Its just that it has been going on for a while and I'm just too passive. I can get hot-tempered and angry but I usually hold it in, tell Sean about it...and then eventually blow up. I'd like to take care of it before I lose my $hit all over the place....but I know me better than that.
More than anything I'm worried I'll say something stupid and make the issue 100 times bigger than it really is...and there is a certain person involved who can blow things out of proportion. I just don't need to be blamed for ruining a 15 year old friendship, lol.

Photo Frenzy

I've been gone for a few days from here. I think I may have needed a break...or just had to let life catch up with me. I have quite a few things to mention, so lets get started, shall we?

Tuesday - Mom watched the kids so Sean and I could go see Iron Man. OMG that movie ROCKED!! Sean is still in shock that I didn't know the 'Iron Man' song...and I was in shock that he didn't know Carpe Diem meant Seize the Day. Also, we ate at a new Mexican place here in town - Authentic Mexican food. Soooo good. The funny part came after we ate though.
Sean and I ventured forth from the building toward our car. I was a few steps ahead so when he addressed the owner I didn't make out all of what he said. By the time it reached my ears I turned on him and asked "What...did you just say to him??"
"Ah, I was just telling them good night."
"No...what did you say?"
"Buenos Nachos."
Bwahahahaha "Sean, it looks like the pasty white girl is going to have to tell the Hispanic husband that its Buenos NOCHES.....not nachos. You just told him good nachos. Dork.....I am sooo blogging this."

The he threatened that he's going to get a blog just so he can make fun of me online. I told him to "BRING IT ON, BIG BOY!"

Thursday - Now for the photo fun. I know its a lot, and you can find bigger versions by clicking on any pic. It will take you to my flickr stream :). I realized that some people may never check there so it may not be a bad idea to post more photos here every now and then :).

I'm back

You really need to go read Melissa's game experience. I came back from a nap to find the message from her saying that my recent SIMS experience triggered an old memory. I really needed the laugh...thanks Melissa :).

Like I said, I took about an hour nap before Jenn needed to leave for work at 2. I woke up with her face inches from mine...man that is a freaky experience. My son used to do it all the time...in the middle of the night...and I would wake up with a shadow in the doorway or breathing on my face. I'm naturally a very jumpy person, too may bad life experiences, so things like this nearly make me lose it. Especially with the dreams I have sometimes. I shook for about two minutes, but we laughed about it. Its not the first time she's done that...and at least she isn't a shadow :).

Like I said earlier I began to take my Cymbalta again. For those that don't know, it is a depression medicine. I have a post I'm working on about my depression...look for it tomorrow. Its really too important to try to fit everything in right here. Quickly though, I will say this. Last night I mentioned to my husband that I had felt it coming for a couple of days. Since he's the type to say "just get over it" I searched my mind for a life comparison and this is what I came up with.
I have 2 variations of my depression (2 major ones anyway). 1. You're driving down the road, going 60 miles an hour, singing to the radio and happy out of your mind - thing you are hit from all 4 sides by diesel's. 2. You're driving along and notice a deer running beside you. You know that if you hit it your car will be totaled and there will be serious trouble. You believe you can outrun it...but eventually it swerves in front of you...leaving confusion and destruction in its wake. Recently it has been the second one...and it hit me hard last night.

On the brighter side, I feel lighter today. It could be because nothing is left in my stomach...but I believe its because of the breakdown. And, because my husband is beginning to understand. I can only hope that is the case. When you are depressed you need those that love you, or that you are closest to, to just give you a hug, wipe a tear away or tell you they love you. Its amazing how much those little things can make a difference. If you know someone that is suffering with depression today...could you please just take a few moments to call/talk to them and tell you that you love them...give them a hug if you can. It will let a little light into the darkness, a light they search for every day that the disease is ravaging their bodies.

And this link will show you that being kind and dealing with 'mean' people can reward you in the end...not that you should do it for a reward but...oh just read the article..lol.

My Life Lately

You ever have one of those days where you just wonder what it's all about? I'm having one of those days...moments...lives. Like with these blogs...I don't think anyone ever reads them. So why do I do it? Is it this insane sense of needing something to do? Is it my quest for doing anything that resembles creativitiy?

Anway, I thought I'd play some catch up.

The Tuesday before Labor Day my bf Jenn and I went to Springfield to do some shopping. Something she and I have not gotten to do since I moved back. Usually we are loaded down with 5 kids or broke. We got ambitious that day and decided to have a girl's day at the mall. So it was just me and Jenn...and the two baby girls. A mommy/daughter day, if you will. All went well at the mall. Only a minor incident in Old Navy where I could not leave the store without buying the hot pink and black soccer ball for my little Princess. Well...until that guy from my recent state of habitation decided to rear-end us. I wish I had gotten a picture of his car.

Apparently, he had looked down at the map and completely forgot that he was in bumper-to-bumper traffic. He slammed into the back of us, completely crumpling the front of his dad's Dodge "I-paid-too-much-for-it" car. Once inside the nearest parking lot, and moments after opening my eyes to see the bumper of the van in front of us getting way too close, I jumped out to check on my Princess, who was screaming in the back seat. She was fine, but my heart nearly jumped out of my throat when I saw something brown smeared all over her leg, hands and face. I forgot about the chocolate mint she had snagged at the restaurant...all I know is that chocolate has never scared me so much in my life. Point of interest - it is not easy to open a wipey box when your hands are shaking and your body is in shock. Jenn's daughter awoke at impact long enough to scream and then went gently back to sleep. Thank God...I think Jenn would have been convicted of shaken-baby syndrome when it was all over. She was shaking so bad...she was scaring me. I'm pretty sure I blacked out for a second because I missed the part where our drinks flew out of the cupholders and onto my pack of cigarettes. Yeah...that Tuesday is not a day I ever want to re-live.

On Friday I came down with the worst case of bronchitis I've ever had, as stated in a previous post. 2 hours in the hospital ER and all I got out of it that day was a quick "You have bronchitis" and some antibiotic...and a hefty $550 bill. I had to have a steroid injection in both cheeks (monday) and felt just groovy for the rest of the day. But that was after going to see my mom in Kansas for the holiday weekend and not being able to breathe. I've just now gotten to the point where I'm not constantly panting and wheezing.

Today Jenn and I went to Springfield again...with all 5 kids which turned into yet another day that I do not wish to relive any time soon. We made out with a wonderful trip to McDonalds and 3 pairs of white football pants. However, I had to come home and remove my shoes and socks quickly. Jenn parked in a flood and I completely soaked myself. The boys loved it though. Oh yeah, water to the shins baby...Rock On!
And to top it all off, I give you one awful pic of me...but totally fun one of Jenn.
